Male botox is planned around male facial anatomy and muscle strength, softening a tired or stern expression while preserving the natural position of the brow line. At my clinic in Nişantaşı, Istanbul, I plan treatments for male patients with a different dose and point logic than for women.
My male patients are usually clear about what they want: the features should not change, nobody should notice, they should just look rested. I build the plan around that.
Why planning differs in male anatomy
Three differences, all of which affect the result directly:
Brow position. In women, a slight arch at the outer brow is often the desired outcome. In men, a flat brow sitting close to the eyelid defines the character of the face. A poorly planned treatment can lift the brow tail and give an unfamiliar expression. For male patients I therefore choose injection points on a more lateral and more horizontal line.
Muscle strength and dose. Male expression muscles are generally thicker and stronger. Achieving the same visible effect often requires a higher dose.1 Applying the dose scheme I would use for a female patient to a male patient results in the effect fading sooner than expected.
Target level of result. A completely line-free face is not the aim in men. Some lines remaining is what keeps the face looking mature and familiar. The goal is only to soften deep lines and a stern expression.
Areas treated
- Frown lines. The most frequently requested area for male patients. Softens the harsh look created by a furrowed brow. Anatomy covered on the frown line page.

For male patients with teeth-grinding symptoms, masseter botox is another option I use frequently; it aims both to ease the symptoms and to support definition along the jawline.
The procedure
At the examination I ask you to make your expressions so I can assess muscle strength, the natural position of your brow line and any asymmetry. In male patients the most important measurement is the distance from the brow to the eyelid; the dose decision largely follows from it.
The treatment is given with very fine needles and takes around 10 to 15 minutes. Needle sensitivity is common among male patients; with the comfort management that comes from anaesthesiology, the treatment is carried out lying down, with numbing cream and cooling support.
The effect begins within 3 to 4 days and settles by day 10 to 14. Duration averages 4 to 6 months, and in people with strong muscles it can sit at the shorter end. I recommend leaving at least 3 months before repeating.
You can go straight back to work or to a meeting afterwards; no recovery period is needed.
Visiting Istanbul or living here?
A large part of my patients are people living in Istanbul as foreign residents or visiting the city, so the practical questions come up often.
Same-day, no stay required. This is a walk-in treatment. There is no recovery period and you do not need to extend your trip for it.
Flying is not a problem. Cabin pressure does not affect the result. You can travel the same day.
Aftercare
For the best result, a few simple points on the first day are enough:
- Stay upright for the first 4 hours. Do not lie face down or keep your head bent forward.
- Do not massage or rub the treated area.
- Avoid very hot showers for 24 hours, and saunas and steam rooms for the first week.
- Avoid heavy exercise and intense cardio for the first week.
- Avoid alcohol on the day of treatment.
Mild redness or a small bruise may appear at the injection points and settles within a few days. Allergic reactions are rare, which is why treatments are carried out under medical supervision.

Frequently asked questions
Will my eyebrows arch up? Will my expression change?
This is the concern male patients raise most often. An arched brow tail is directly related to point selection; with a more lateral, horizontal placement suited to male anatomy, the flat brow structure is preserved. I plan it by measuring the natural position of your brow line at the examination.
Will people be able to tell?
The aim is that people notice you look rested, not that you look different. For that I prefer starting with a measured dose and reviewing the result together after 10 to 14 days. A second adjustment can be made if needed — topping up an insufficient dose is easier than reversing an excessive one.
If men need more units, does the effect last longer?
No, it can be the opposite. Because the muscle is strong, it may regain movement sooner. Duration can sit at the shorter end of the 4 to 6 month range.
I train regularly. Will that affect it?
In people who train intensively, the effect can be somewhat shorter, related to metabolic rate. Pausing heavy training for the first week after treatment is enough; after that you can return to your routine.
I have a beard. Does that affect the treatment?
The areas treated are the frown lines, forehead and around the eyes, so a beard makes no difference. The area simply needs to be clean on the day.
I am uncomfortable with needles. A common situation and easily managed. The treatment is carried out lying down with numbing cream applied beforehand. Managing this kind of sensitivity is professional habit for me as an anaesthesiologist.
